Off With Their Heads – Home – Review
Off With Their Heads is a band that intrigued me a lot since I first heard them because of the dark atmosphere they create in their songs and because their songs are melancholic and angry at the same time. In addition, their sound is full-bodied and aggressive, their refrains are catchy and straightforward and the singing is rough, expressive and very energetic. It’s useless to say that this excites me a lot!
Today I’ll specifically talk about “Home”, the third album by Off With Their Heads. It was released in March 2013 for the Epitaph (one of my favorite labels). As I said first, OWTH plays a straightforward punk rock with some melodic contamination that gives every song an energetic and catchy sound, and this new album, “Home” doesn’t change the style. Maybe their songs are similar to each other but each and everyone of them has a specific identity and helps create a homogenized album without resulting boring. This is admirable. There are two songs that are different from the rest of the album:”Don’t Make Me Go” and “Stolen Away” and they are put in the best of orders because they relax the ear from the other songs that are more violent. Lyrics are wise, reflective and are well-done by Ryan Young.
The album starts in a great way: the song “Start Walking” has a great impact and puts you right into the album. “Seek Advice Elsewhere” and “Nightlife” are the best tracks of “Home” besides the first song “Start Walking”. I could talk about this album for hours but it would be boring for you and repetitive for me, because all songs have personality and the album is very powerful and it makes you want to play it over and over, and this last thing is fundamental. What can I say…”Home” is awesome. Off With Their Heads is awesome. So, listen to this amazing album and keep an eye on this band!
