Yellowcard – Southern Air – Review

There are some bands that release one GREAT album. Then there are very few bands that release a GREAT album and the next one is even better than that first one! Today I’ll talk about Yellowcard, one of these few bands, and I’ll especially talk about their last album “Southern Air”. Their career, before their hiatus in 2008, was marked by a series of awesome albums and, when they got back together in 2010, many people saw the reunion as a way to make money or to tour. But they were in the wrong because in 2011 they released “When You’re Thinking, Say Yes” and this was an amazing album. However many people thought that the next album would have been a flop. But once again they were wrong because Yellowcard in 2012 released “Southern Air”, an AWESOME album, certainly their best album (in my opinion) and this is incredible because their old albums are extraordinary, but this last one is an A+ album! All the 10 songs are fantastic and a lot of sites and reviews have the same opinion about this album. “Southern Air” is catchy, energetic, gives emotions, has a fantastic sound and Ryan Key’s lyrics are magnificent and very personal. The first song “Awakening” is one of the best pop-punk tracks I’ve ever heard and, even though this first song stands out a lot, the other songs still sound great.
The violin, which is characteristic of Yellowcard, fills up each and every song. As for the drums,  Longineu W. Parson III (who recently left the band) is a phenomenon because he’s never repetitive, he plays very energetically and he’s one of the most underrated drummers. Guitars and Key’s singing are wonderful.
So, ladies and gentlemen, I could write about this impressive album for days, but there would be the risk of debasing it. You MUST LISTEN TO “SOUTHERN AIR”. Stop.
What do I think about their next album? I don’t know. But I’m sure that no one will criticize Yellowcard if they won’t release a better album than this one for two simple reasons:
1- certainly the next album will be great anyway
2- it’ll be very difficult to record an album better than one that is close to perfection.
Congratulations to Yellowcard!
