NOFX – Self Entitled – Review

I was searching for a way to start this review describing NOFX, but then I thought that if you’re reading this review you already know who NOFX is! Come on, NOFX is on the punk rock scene since 1983! So, NOFX released “Self Entitled”  in 2012 and  it contains 12 tracks. Lots of punk rockers were waiting for this album to understand if NOFX still had it.
The album begins in a magnificent way with the first and the second track: “72 Hookers” and “I Believe In Goddess”; then it continues with melodic hc punk songs typical of NOFX and Fat Mike’s singing is energetic as always. After the first time I listened to it I realized that there aren’t any trumpet parts and that there aren’t any songs influenced by reggae like “Eat The Meek”. I like that kind of track but I don’t miss it so much and in this way this album is united and very cool.
In my opinion, the best songs of the album are: “72 Hookers”, “I Believe In Goddess”, “She didn’t Lose her Baby”, “Cell Out” and the Christmas song called “Xmas Has Been X’ed”. “Ronnie and Mags” and “My Sycophant Others” are also great songs. The rest is good but it’s not amazing.
Lyrics are very interesting as always and I love those of :“72 Hookers” (which talks about terrorists and sex),”Cell Out”  (which makes fun of people that believe NOFX are sold out) and “She Didn’t Lose Her Baby” with its serious topic.
In this album I really like the bass and the backing vocals, I appreciate the guitar riffs and Fat Mike’s singing and it’s great when Sandin, the drummer, speeds up the songs!
I think that it’s not simple to write incredible songs after a 30 year career but “Self Entitled” is a great album and I suggest you to listen to it! Maybe it’s not like their first albums but I think you’ll appreciate “Self Entitled”.
I want to finish my review complimenting NOFX for still giving us, after 30 years, great albums and great emotions! Thank you!

KEY SENTENCE:
“72 virgins can never stop a war
But a 100,000 hookers can beat the Marine Corps
In stopping hatred, fighting will cease
When everyone is getting blow jobs
That’s when we’ll finally have world peace ” – 72 Hookers
