In Veneto There Is No Law 3rd Edition – Treviso Punx
On the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of last September at Maserada del Piave (near Treviso), the third edition of Veneto There Is No Law took place, organized by Treviso Punx. The event was held in an area usually used for sporting events (those who stayed both days could admire some people dressed as baseball players, like in an an American movie), where there were a variety of distros, vegan food (including the amazing Pizza Balls and spicy chips) and beers as usual.
The first Saturday performers were the gruesome Restos Humanos, founded in 2013 in Treviso but with Spanish lyrics (the singer is a native speaker), with an aggressive and excellent grindcore/death metal.
Shortly thereafter, it was the turn of the legendary Kontatto, the authors of a dirty and violent but at the same time well-played anarchic d-beat/crust, which leaves no respite.
Next, the anarchic punk/hardcore Warfare, born in the 1980s in Gorizia and still playing.
Then there were Antisect, a historic British anarcho-punk band, born in 1982, now devoted to a very metallic hardcore, showing that the age doesn’t count.
The headliners of the evening were Controversies, who unfortunately played for a shorter time than hoped for, but they showed that they have the role they deserve, featuring some of their historical tracks, such as “Demone” and “Dèi”, of which we all know the upsetting intro.
The first Sunday performers were Eslege, an anarcho-punk band from Genoa, who rehearsed their tracks with the current line-up in a week (if I remember well), with an excellent result.
Then, it was the turn of Speedkobra, a devastating anarchic crust/d-beat band from Germany.
Soon after DHK, from Peru, played a violent hardcore with engaged lyrics (anarchists and ecologists, in fact, featuring tracks such as Bike Punx), and between one track and another they expressed their personal considerations, something unfortunately missed by most local bands, which rarely devote themselves to political proclamations outside the songs.
Later, it was the turn of Stasis, a fierce crust/d-beat/grind band from Bologna.
It was then the turn of Vivere Merda, a Hardcore/Crust band from Friuli, who unfortunately performed for a short time, due to one of the members’ physical problems, but they had the time to play a crazy cover of Cimex.
Next, there were the Galician Nashgul (like Tolkien’s Ringwraiths?), who played some grindcore with impeccable technique.
And finally, to delight us with their legendary anarcho-punk, the Cress, the headliners of the evening, who played some of their unforgettable tracks such as “Progress”, with on the background some videos portraying the horrors created by humanity as war, militarism, nationalism and so on. Unfortunately the sound had some problems (some screech and the voice not always understandable), but they gave a good performance as well in spite of their age.
Finally, a super thanks to the guy who distributed watermelon pieces to the audience and above all to the great guys of Treviso Punx, who gave their best to organize two amazing days and to give a place to sleep and a car ride to all the people who needed one. Super thank you! Up the punx!
