Hardcore Punk

Acid Casualties – Flags Are False (Iron Lung Records | 12” LP)

This album by the New Jersey band comes with a lysergic, colourful, chaotic, old-school artwork designed by Matt Morgantini, guitarist of the band (as well as Mirage). It’s the perfect prelude to the band’s sharp and corrosive sound, with a raw ’80s vibe and frenzied rhythms worthy of the most frenetic hardcore punk bands! 12 fast and explosive tracks!

Autolyse – S/T (Primator Crew | 7”)

Let’s talk again about the Parisian band after their sensational cassette debut in March 2024. The four new tracks on this EP are powerful, rock-solid, abrasive and, at the same time, surrounded by a dark and gloomy aura. In fact, the description “Negative Hardcore punk oi!” is absolutely spot on. Turn up the volume and enjoy this EP!

Contrast Attitude – Discharge Your Noise (Desolate Records, D-takt & Råpunk | 12” LP/ Why Records | CD)

The Japanese band formed in 1998 returns with a new full-length album following 2009’s Apocalyptic Raw Sound. These 10 new tracks are an assault on our ears, with the unmistakable Japanese d-beat / raw hardcore punk sound. The band is in great shape and the songs get under your skin from the very first moment thanks to these original and unmistakable riffs! This album is a sensational blast

Haram – ليش الجنة بيتبلش في الجهنم؟ Why Does Paradise Begin in Hell (Toxic State Records | 12” LP)

The New York band’s second album comes out of the blue. The 12 hardcore punk tracks blend seamlessly with an Arabian atmosphere, as evidenced by the lyrics’ language and the artwork. The songs are full of rhythm changes, furious and powerful, and they stick in your head thanks to the fresh and original riffs, as well as the overall atmosphere of the album. A complex mosaic that amazes both when viewed up close and as a whole. What lies behind the music makes this band even more interesting, as they make walking the razor’s edge of provocation their mantra. Criticism of Islamic extremism, mixed with the cultural assertion of the frontman’s Arab origins, is recounted with irony and scorn. A truly explosive mix!

This album is a serious contender for album of the year! The band is currently in Europe, so keep that in mind.
We also recommend this interesting interview published on the release of the band’s last EP, where you can also find some information about this incredible band.

Traidora – Una Mujer Trans Sin País (La Vida Es Un Mus | 12″ LP)

Traidora is a project created by Eva Leblanc, a Venezuelan trans woman who immigrated to the UK. Una Mujer Trans Sin Pais is her first full-length album and is performed live by a band made up of queer people. The biography of this project is fundamental to describing the strong political charge that exudes from every song on this album. Eva uses raw and energetic punk sounds, reminiscent of bands such as G.l.o.s.s. and Los Crudos, to shout out to the world about issues such as gender dysphoria, Palestinian resistance and immigration seen through the eyes of transfeminism. The tracks Un cuerpo trans lleno de odio and Cenizas en el rostro leave their mark from the first listen. Wonderful!

Punk Rock

1876 – Pow Wow Punk Rock 4 (F Tiipii Records)

1876 was the year of the Battle of the Little Bighorn and the crushing victory of the Lakota Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapaho over the US Army. Significantly, this is the name chosen by this band from Portland, Oregon, which represents the Northern Cheyenne and Blackfeet nations and aims to defend and promote their causes and culture. In their songs, the English lyrics are interspersed with passages in the languages of the two nations, Tsitsitsas and Pikani, respectively. This EP, the fourth and last in the series, contains six tracks in which punk rock is mixed with traditional rhythms and a touch of rap, as in “CTYNDN II,” featuring Wyzaker, Kunu, and Mista Chief, and ska-punk, as in “Dancing on the Enemy,” featuring Hans Gruber and the Die Hards. An album, or rather a series of albums, of great political and cultural importance, but also very enjoyable to listen to. Don’t miss them!

The Dreadnoughts – Polka Pit (Punkerton Records | 12” LP/ CD)

In Quezzi, a hillside district of Genoa, Italy, there is a street named after Stefanina Moro, a young partisan and martyr of the Resistance who was born in that very district. And it is with amazement and emotion that we discover that her story has crossed the ocean and reached Canada, inspiring “Tarantella Bang Boom,” one of the tracks on the new album by the Vancouver folk punk band. An extraordinary album that bridges Europe and America, past and present, tradition and innovation, bringing together accordion, fiddle, and mandolin with guitar, bass, and drums. Thus, tarantella, polka, and sea shanties merge with punk rock to draw us into a frenetic dance in the pit, inebriated and liberating, yes, but never forgetting the values of anti-fascism and those who, like Stefanina, fought or still fight to defend freedom: “A real partisan never dies.” Awesome!

Unfinished Grounds – Memories From Tomorrow

If you feel the need for a breath of positivity in these gloomy times, here is the album for you. From Viana do Castelo, Portugal, comes an interesting quartet inspired by 90s Californian melodic punk rock with their first full-length album. Currently available only in digital format, but coming to CD and vinyl in November, the 11 tracks sung in English invite us to regain hope in the future and to commit ourselves to ensuring that humanity and solidarity prevail over injustice and hatred: “coexistence over genocide.” Listen to it on repeat to turn your day around!

Ska Punk

The Best of the Worst – New Dead Ends (Bad Time Records | 12” LP / CD)

Is it possible to combine reggae, ska, metal, and hardcore in the same album, or even in the same song? For this quintet from New Jersey, the answer is yes, and with excellent results. The encounter/clash between such different genres expresses a wide range of moods, from melancholy to anger, on topics that range from the personal to the social. The album also features illustrious collaborations from the American ska-punk scene: Jon Tummillo (Folly), Travis Nelson (Hub City Stompers), and Mike Sosinski (Kill Lincoln). Yet another great album from Bad Time Records, which is a must-have for your collection if you love ska-punk and bold mash-ups!

Mad Apple Circus – WRITTEN IN CAPITALS (DIY | 12” LP / CD)

Ska-punk with a solid horn section alternating with hip-hop grooves, with a dash of jazz and funk. This is the recipe used by the band from Bristol, England, for their third album, resulting in an original and instantly recognizable sound that is warm and engaging. And if we add that the vinyls are produced entirely from recycled material to minimize the impact on the environment, well, what are you waiting for to give this great work a listen?

Post Punk

Nyx Division – Midnight Lights (12” LP Black Water Records, Agipunk Records | Tape Transylvanian Recordings)

It’s nighttime and the temperature has dropped a little; summer is finally over. A light rain falls on the car windscreen, the lights filtering through the raindrops. We turn on the stereo and play Midnight Lights, perfect for driving throughout the city. This album is wonderful, with its post-punk sound, meticulously crafted and never banal. One song, after another, will stick in your head for days thanks to the guitar riffs and Domino Monet’s incredible voice. The deep bass gives it a more punk feel, while the drums remind us of the typical sounds of the 80s. An incredibly successful album in every respect, we’re hooked!

Crust Punk

Psych-War – Psychotic Warmonger (Agipunk Records, Archaic Records | 12” LP / Archaic Records, Sore Mind | Tape)

After their excellent 2023 demo, the Philadelphia band pleasantly smashes our ears with their debut full-length album. Eleven powerful tracks packed with massive doses of crust punk seasoned with stench breaks, Motorhead-Inepsy punk rock’n’roll echoes and a few Bolt Thrower-style riffs. If you like the Swedish school of Dischange, Disfear, and Wolfbrigade, you’ll be surprised to hear something completely original that will satisfy your weird musical tastes!

Hellshock – XXV (Agipunk Records, Black Water Records | 12” LP / Black Konflik Records | CD / Black Water Records, Onesnaževanje Uma | Tape)

The legendary Portland band shows no sign of slowing down, adding another precious piece to its incredible discography. These six new tracks take us on a half-hour journey through dark, cold and apocalyptic atmospheres, beautifully represented by Jon Werrin‘s stunning artwork. Their unmistakable sound, which blends crust punk, stenchcore and death metal, reaches dizzying heights on this album. A sensational record!

Garage Punk

Deadly Tonic – s/t (7” | Diy)

We have in our hands this cute 7″ from the Reggio Emilia band, Deadly Tonic. The power trio churns out four tracks of rock’n’roll/garage punk that are raw but not too much, straight to the point and with a beautiful guitar sound! Awesome work, guys!
