No Reason To The Fest 2016

The return of the punk mobile coincides with a punk rock concert with bands I had never seen before. I’m talking of No Reason To The Fest, organized on August 10th at the Phobic Club of Marghera by NoReason Booking together with Trivel and Venezia Hardcore.
The concert started quite early with Frode Alimentare, a band I wasn’t able to see.

The first band I saw was Second Youth, a band made up of members from Gold kids, The Legacy and Miles Away, which makes “Long Live Nostalgia” a slogan and an attitude. Their melodic punk rock is quite melancholic, but not sugary. I enjoyed them and their songwriting gives good hopes.

The next band was Edward In Venice from Pesaro. I had heard a lot about them and now I know why. The musicians’ enviable technique goes along with a very good alchemy, and the singer, a loose cannon, gives the right punk touch to their melodic and wild hardcore.

Regarde from Vicenza propose an old time punk rock/emo the main ingredient of which is nostalgy. I didn’t know them and they aren’t quite my kind of band, though they are very good, believe me.

Then came Such Gold, a band I tried to listen to, but except for some tracks they didn’t get my head. They are amazing on stage, the singer and bass player have an astonishing complicity. They can play very well and are quite endearing, but their songs, except for “Two Year Plan” (the second in the setlist) and a few others, don’t catch me much. I’ll try to give them further attention and a second chance, since their pop punk – hardcore mix intrigues me.

But the real reason why I was there were Flatliners, a band from Ontario I started to listen to several years ago thanks to the song “Liver Alone”. I was pleasantly surprised because I found some clever musicians and the singer, Chris, interacted a lot with the audience, though he didn’t understand that a guy shouted “Fate i Nabat” not “Fate gli Abba”… Anyway. His voice is rough, powerful, but versatile. The melodic and never ordinary riffs are a trademark of this band which in every album put its identity at the service of an impressive artistic growth.”Monumental”, “Eulogy” and “Liver Alone” were the top of this great punk rock hour. An amazing band to see again and again and to respect for that magical touch in their lyrics and music.

I thank No Reason, Trivel, the Phobic, Venezia Hardcore and all the bands and the audience. A high quality punk rock night!
