Review: Path & Collatino Goddam – Cinema
Path’s first album accompanied by Collatino Goddam band
As soon as the release of this album was announced, my curiosity went sky-high, also because this time Path – already a member of Automatica Aggregazione and Gli Ultimi, as well as author of excellent solo projects such as “Lima Sorda” and “Hombre Lobo Sessions” – is accompanied by Collatino Goddam, a solid band composed by absolutely magnificent musicians, such as Emiliano “Caciotta” Cazorsi on bass, Guido “Tiedbelly” Jandelli on guitar and Fabrizio Cristallo on drums.
I had already contacted Roberto Gagliardi of Hellnation, producer of this LP + CD called “Cinema”, to get some copies for my stand, and after I saw and listened to “Piccola Storia Del Mondo”, I realized that I should have come across this record as soon as possible. Thanks to the kind permission of “the Almighty” Robertò, I returned from Den Den Party listening to the CD several times ‘till I arrived at home.
I’d like to make a foreword: this is a really complex, poetic and heartfelt album, I cannot explain this concept in just a few lines. But all that I can surely do is to make you feel like listening to and buying it, in order to support this incredible music and all the people who worked hard for its making.
The album consists of 10 tracks and starts with an intro in which the music accompanies a spoken text, that projects us into the mood of the album itself. Here we are in the middle of the record: it’s exactly the song “Piccola Storia Del Mondo” which makes us figure out that from here on the album will be a sequence of poetry, personal and neighborhood events (very dear to Path), everyday stories shown by his point of view, and a lot of thoughts.
This is an album that makes us reflect and fall in love with, and musically it’s also terribly beautiful. The sounds were edited by Valerio Fisik; the simple but impressive artwork (the cover art which shows the face of a girl called Susanna is wonderful) by Matias Biglieri frames and gives the idea of what this album is, that is a bunch of stories told as a movie, hence the perfect title “Cinema”.
On a musical level, there’s a great mixture of different genres, from blues to folk, from singer-songwriters to the typical gritty punk rock attitude, but most of all a lot of soul music.
It’s impossible to mention all the songs that appear on this album: each of them has something to say, both in terms of music and lyrics.
Lotsa stuff! Congrats to Path & Collatino Goddam, Folk Beat Vendetta and Hellnation! Let me say that you absolutely have to listen to “Cinema”, you have no idea how beautiful it is!
