Derozer – Passaggio a Nordest – Review
Writing about Derozer is never easy. It means writing about a band you’ve grown up with and that has grown up with you, that has been entertaining you and in whose lyrics you always recognize yourself: a hangover, a funny night with friends, a disappointment or a broken romance, Derozer always have the right soundtrack for every moment.
And PASSAGGIO A NORDEST, this is the album’s title, is evidence of this.
At a time when it isn’t easy to find a place if you play fringe music (that’s punk today); at a time when it isn’t easy to make the most of your efforts or being credible; at a time when being 30 or 40 or 50 years old and going to punk concerts or play music seems senseless, Derozer release an album which is a ray of sun in a gray world.
And tracks such as IO CREDO IN TE, CAMMINERÒ DA SOLO and VECCHIO PUNK, express this thought perfectly.
These tracks sound like a pat on the shoulder, a spur not to lose your essence but to dare to be yourself regardless of judgment and derision.
A special mention goes to the lyrics, which have been evolving with the band: their artistic maturity is particularly evident in the lyrics, while style and sound are more or less the same we know.
Talking about lyrics, the album deals with topical issues such as IL CUORE DEL MARE and UNA GIORNATA NON BASTA, respectively about the migrants drowned at sea and people who defend the memory of an event or an issue only one day a year.
Also the title track, PASSAGGIO A NORDEST, is remarkable.
Derozer are back in style: the album is genuine, overwhelming and, regardless of the 13 years since their previous record, their power and energy are great. ZOMBIE,the closing track, and my favourite one, is an example of how lyrics can be a masterpiece: “Ma il tempo è galantuomo, guarisce le ferite ma nulla al mondo potrà mai guarire la cicatrice che invecchierà con me insieme ai tatuaggi per ricordarmi sempre che non sei qui con me.” (But time heals wounds, but nothing in the world will heal the scar that will grow old with me, together with my tattoos to remind me forever that you’re not with me).
