Post Punk

Astio – Tempio Inganno (Agipunk | LP 12″ / Urticaria Records, Gone Blind Records, A World Divided | Cassette)

The band from Trento strikes again! Solid post punk sounds, song after song this record captures us and gives us moments of great music. In addition to listening, time should be spent reading the introduction to the record and the lyrics, which are of great quality. ‘Look up, be aware of your surroundings and burn down the Temple of Deception’
Great work Astio, keep it up!

Utopie – Virage ( Symphony of destruction, L’ouïe pleure records, Don’t trust the hype, Dans le vide, Les choeurs de l’ennui, Les âmes d’Atala | 12” LP)

Utopie from Lille come out with this record made up of 10 tracks of punk contaminated by post-punk, sung in French and characterized by those cold-punk sounds that literally drive us crazy. Deep and rhythmic bass and drums, hypnotic guitar riffs and a strong voice make up the right mix for those who love bands of the French post-punk strand. Honorable mention for the striking artwork (made by Barreto) and for Jacky’s studio, where the band made the master of the record, a name that has now become synonymous with guarantee. 10+ record!

Columba Triste – S/t (Lada, Une Vie Pour Rien Vinyles, L’ouïe Pleure | 12”)

From Lille, this is the new 12’ by Columba Triste. With an experienced mix of punk and post-punk, it blew our minds from the first listen! Energetic French vocals, cool and edgy riffs, solid bass and drums, and that cold punk mood literally made us devour the five tracks. We hope to see them live soon!

Grindcore / Hardcore

Fracture – Consuming Chaos (Radio Punk, Charles Records, THC DIY Prod., Wrong Disk Records, Flames Don’t Judge, Rumori in Cantina | CD)

We co-released together with other DIY labels the new CD album by Modena band Fracture. 9 chaotic and extreme songs for those who love sounds hovering between grindcore and hardcore with sharp riffs, powerful vocals and pouring blast beats and tupa tupa. The artwork by Illmut Aksam and Matteo Boschini projects us perfectly into the dark atmosphere of the record. Make this explosive work yours!

Crust Punk

Languid – Shove Their System Up Their Ass (Desolate Records, D-Takt & Råpunk Records | 12″ LP)

The Canadian band is back with their fourth record, and we couldn’t be happier. We had been struck by a spark at their concert at XM24 in 2019, during the band’s tour with Headsplitters. On this record, the band leads us with gritty riffs, rough and charismatic vocals and a shot reminiscent of pioneers Discharge but also of Sweden’s Meanwhile. 12 deflagrating tracks for lovers of crust punk sounds with a d-beat touch! Few frills, lots of stuff!

Tetem – Egy másik világ pokla

The second album by the Hungarian band Tetem is released and from the very first lines it shocks us in a positive way. An incredible incendiary mixture of crust punk, d-beat, melodic elements and dark metal. Right from the start, thanks to the guitar that alternates straight parts with more catchy parts (pass me that term), the comparison that comes to mind is that of Tragedy, His Hero Is Gone or Wolfbrigade, but also vaguely of Hiatus in “The Brain”. The vocal performance is amazing and the maddening drums run full speed through these 8 tracks of which 3 are sung in English and 5 in Hungarian. The solemn atmosphere that rages throughout the record makes it a real treat for lovers of the genre!

Hardcore Punk

The Hell – S/T (Drunken Sailor, Sorry State | 7″)

The Cleveland band plunges us into the atmosphere of the glorious 1980s’ hardcore punk, among rattling guitars, rhythm changes and rough, scratchy vocals. 5 songs of which the first 4 are fast and very short and the last one lasting more than 5 minutes that occupies the entire B-side of the 7”, hypnotically and lysergically taking us to the end of the record. If you love bands like Germs, Zero Boys and Lewd, you will go nuts for this record.

Spam Caller – Bad Connection (Phage Tapes | 12″ LP, tape)

These nine songs come straight from the band’s rehearsal room in Novato, California, where they were recorded with absolute precision. A great lesson in old-fashioned hardcore punk. A fast, powerful, pissed-off record with violent breakdowns, ranting at the drop of a hat, and furious, screaming vocals throughout the album that seem to tug at you and sound your alarm! What a bombshell!

M.A.I. – Morte Agli Infami

Old school hardcore punk that inflames our hearts with these 5 tracks, similar to Friction, Tear Me Down, and Hail, just to give some references. Good lyrics, straight to the point, and sung with great anger, an edgy sound and great performance of all the band members. A record that sounds like a bomb exploding!

Punk Rock

The Useless 4 – S/T (Wild Honey Records | 12″ LP)

This very young quartet from Bergamo consists of twins Elisa and Sara, guitarist and singer, and siblings Federico and Claudia, drummer and bassist. The band formed in 2019 when they were only 12/14 years old! The Useless 4 come out in March with their debut album with 7 songs straddling punk rock and grunge, in fact the first names that come to mind are Ramones, Nirvana and L7. This S/T is a blast both in artwork, as simple as it is effective, and in style and sound. Highlights of this record include the fact that this work was recorded in one take, live, and that the whole thing started with the proposition “If you skip school on Friday, I’ll record you an album.” Give confidence to this LP, you will not regret it!

Boss’ Daughter / Big Time – Party Twister Split (Asteroid M Records | 7”)

Split consisting of four tracks, two per band, by Boss’ Daughter from Reno, Nevada and Big Time from Seattle. Punk rock with super overwhelming energy and fast tempo that will win you over from the first listen. And what about the gorgeous felines on the cover (Party and Twister, indeed!) portrayed by Joe Raposo (RKL, Lagwagon)?

No Drama – Tensión Perdida

Excellent debut for this new band from Madrid, which calls its music “songs of love and struggle.” The quartet, in the classic formation of vocals, guitar, bass and drums, fits into the well-established vein of punk rock sung in Spanish, energetic and with lyrics with strong political and social content. The 8-track album also includes a feature by militant feminist and anti-fascist band Caña y Media in the track “Desapercibidx.” Keep an eye on these guys, because they show great promise!

Heathcliff – Postcard from a ParaHell Universe (SBÄM Records, Bearded Punk Records, Double Helix Records, Pee Records | 12” LP)

Imagine a journey from metal to reggae and back, with lots of fast, adrenaline-fueled 90s-style skatepunk in between: this is the spectacular postcard Heathcliff, from Munich but with California in their hearts, sends us. 10 new tracks sung in English plus a cover of Millencolin’s “Friends ’til the End,” which you’ll love if your favorite tunes include Bad Religion, Pennywise and No Use For a Name. A must-have!

20 Minutes – Sucks (Venti3 | 12” LP)

The band from Domodossola is a blast on a live show; this record confirms that they are phenomenal. Quoting from the presentation of the album, this is a ‘20 20-minute album, full stop’, as the concept is simple: straightforward punk rock without frills, with a sound somewhere between Iggy Pop and early hardcore punk. Great album!

Post-Hardcore

Irma – Del Nostro Scontento (Tutto Il Nostro Sangue, Entes Anomicos, Dancing Rabbit Records, Salto Mortale Music, Longrail Records | 12″ LP)

The album, as well as our project, is dedicated to Irma Bandiera, partisan and Resistance gold medal recipient. In dark times, not unlike these, an example of hope, strength and unwavering faith in human beings. The dead will pass away, but the dreams will remain

With these impressive and very important words we start the record by Irma from Lodi. Band that we have already seen live and that had convinced us so much. The artwork perfectly in line with the musical proposal welcomes us into the general mood of the record, where the lyrics, magnificent and high Resistance, take us into a rollercoaster of rhythm changes hovering among post-hardcore, emo and hardcore punk. The sounds are perfect and crystal clear while the heartbreaking and sometimes clean vocals intertwine great with the angry choruses. The guitar and bass blend to perfection and when they alternate they come out sumptuously, backed by the massive and devastating drums. On loop since it came out, masterpiece!

Stormo – Tagli/Talee (Prosthetic records | 12’’ LP, CD)

Power and rage condensed into 11 high-quality tracks. Stormo are always a guarantee!
After a short instrumental intro, this new album drags us into a non-stop vortex of sharp sounds, track after track this album flows without missing a beat. Don’t miss it!

Sludge / Hardcore Punk

Moral Injury – Infiltration Tactics

From New Hampshire, USA comes this album with artwork and title absolutely evocative of the general mood of the record. These 7 tracks flow away in a seesaw of rhythms, with dirty, scratchy riffs and this general fuzzy sound typical in fact of the band’s musical proposal: a sludge contaminated by metal and the rottenest hardcore punk. This record both when it slows down and when it starts blasting away is a cannonball. Turn up the volume and let yourself be stunned!

Ska Punk

Skabara – Fyra svåra år (DIY | 12” LP)

“Four Tough Years”: that is the meaning of the title of this beautiful album, the second by the Swedish ska-punk band. The members of the group have different musical backgrounds behind them, from classic two-tone to surf rock, from metal to Jamaican reggae-ska, and from this plurality of genres comes the eclectic sound of the album, in which 80s-style “cold” atmospheres and danceable swing also coexist with ease. The lyrics, all in Swedish (thank you, automatic translators!), effectively describe different states of mind, from the feeling of having the whole world on your shoulders to the claustrophobia of a toxic relationship, to the haunting of memories that oppress like ghosts, all set in the tough social context of today. Not to be missed!

Swigfoot – S/T (DIY | CD)

From Tucson, Arizona, comes this very entertaining band devoted to crackling, frenetic, and super danceable ska-punk. And the fun is not limited to the musical aspect: the lyrics, too, provide hilarious moments, such as that of the song “Me, Myself, & Idioms,” constructed entirely of catchphrases and idioms (ideal for an English brush-up!). In addition to 13 original songs, the band also takes on two very personal interpretations of legendary songs: “Fat Bottomed Girls” by Queen and “The Bad Touch” by Bloodhound Gang. Press play and enjoy!

Irish Punk

The Cloverhearts – Loving in Squalor (Dead Ferret Productions | 12″ LP)

In the month in which St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated, we could not miss an Irish punk-style record, albeit from Australia. The band, which needs no introduction for those who love the genre, with this album gives us 11 songs that from the first listen plant their roots in our heads to resurface unexpectedly at the most unlikely moments and put us in an irrepressible urge to dance to the sound of banjo, accordion and tin whistle. The delightfully ironic lyrics take aim at the absurdities of the contemporary world, from conspiracy to obsession with cell phones and computers, but also (seriously) seek humanity and solidarity to counter greed and injustice. And, in keeping with tradition, one cannot help but praise whiskey and beer!

Oi!

Zeman – Ancor Non M’Abbandona (Hellnation Records, Rusty knife Records, Tough Ain’t Enough Records, Relaxomatic Vibrator Records | 12” LP)

The title quotes Dante Alighieri, as evocative and solemn as the cover, we let the turntable go, and we are immediately transported to the 80s, with this oi! that winks at Nabat. The other influences, especially on the riffs and general sound, are – as mentioned in the interview – Beton Armé, Aresi, Ultra Razzia… and you can hear them! 11 powerful tracks that flow away great, between mentions to the working class and to skinhead and holligans subcultures.

Fléau – S/T (Contra Records | 12″ LP)

If you like a powerful combat oi!, like Battle Ruins, Rixe, Lion’s Law, just to name but a few, this album is for you and will blow your mind. The French band delights us with this LP containing 10 tracks, including those from the 2021 EP that immediately made fans fall in love. Beautiful artwork and a great sound!
