Punk Oi!

Stiglitz – Quando Tutto Tace (Flamingo Records, Radio Punk, Rumagna Sgroza | 12″ LP, CD)

We are delighted to tell you about our co-production, in which we worked together with our friends at Flamingo Records and Rumagna Sgroza. We have been following Stiglitz, a band from Genoa, for years. They impressed us from the very first moment, and we have developed a strong bond with them, just as we have with the other two labels involved in this release. This album, entitled Quando Tutto Tace, perfectly reflects the essence of the band as it conveys authenticity, spontaneity, heart, love, and passion. Nine tracks plus an intro and outro help you to immerse yourself in and emerge from this wonderful journey through narrow streets, social spaces, views of the sea and grey suburban buildings. Stiglitz, like good sailors, guide us on an inner journey where every human relationship is fundamental and where talking to each other while looking into each other’s eyes is what really matters. The songs intersect a punk oi! base with hardcore, punk rock and post-punk elements, creating a unique, original sound that sticks in your head. The physical format features an evocative photo by Fabrizio Fritz Barile, a pillar of the Genoese skinhead movement and beyond, framed in Stefania Carbonara’s beautiful graphics. Fabrizio Sferrazza and Toni Cocks feature on Senza Chiodi and Ma Se Ci Penso, giving an even more collective feel to this album recorded at David Knezevich’s Velvet Worm Studio from Small Thing. In the end, the result is an album that speaks of Genoa, for all the people who live it intensely every day.

We said it when we first heard it, and we’ll say it again now: we are fucking in love with this record!

To order the physical format, please write to us at info@radiopunk.it or contact the other two labels.

No Time – Comply Or Die (Mendeku Diskak | 7″)

No Time lands here in our favourites section with their 7‘ Comply Or Die. The Pittsburgh band plays energetic rock’n’roll with oi! and punk influences, a mix that we know to be explosive! The rough vocals contrast with the clean sound of the guitars, creating a perfect balance in which the bass and drums also manage to stand out. 10/10!

The Social – All For One, One For All (Mendeku Diskak, Quality Control HQ | 12″ LP)

The Liverpool trio formed by Tom, Gabby and Laura delight our ears for about 20 minutes with 12 tracks with an old-school UK82 flavour. The perfect blend of powerful vocals, hardcore punk rhythms and songwriting that nods to the street punk/oi! of bands like Nabat, Abrasive Wheels and The Partisans gives us an album with high political content and intensity!

Ska Punk

Villa Fantôme – Seconde Zone (At(h)ome | 12” LP/ CD)

“Don’t go! A message to you Babe. All my words are just on my radio. I just can’t get enough…”. Does it ring a bell? That’s right, the lyrics of this song, “French Boy,” are based entirely on the titles of famous songs from a few decades ago. It’s a sort of tribute to the music that inspires the French duo who, after their debut album, one of our favorites of 2022, are back with this second work, and it doesn’t disappoint. ‘Cold’ ska-punk with a slightly dark atmosphere that nods to 80s new wave and is overflowing with cinematic references. A nostalgia trip? Not entirely, because the result is a modern and highly original sound. A real treat for refined palates!

Gringo’s Paradise – Dopamine Doom (Infected Records)

Post-SkaPunk: this is how the band, formed in Lisbon by immigrants who have traveled the world, defines its music, which mixes the energy of punk, the typical brass instruments of ska, 80s synthesizers, and Brazilian rhythms. This first full-length record is a sort of concept album and tells the story of an individual who, initially trapped in a non-existent reality created by social media, a source of frustration and alienation, manages to break free and choose real life, finding meaning in unity and community. An important message conveyed with style, irony, and truly unique sounds. Let yourself be intrigued, you won’t regret it!

Pirates City – ΠΕΙΡΑΤΕΙΑ

It’s always a pleasure to discover bands from countries that are less in the spotlight than others, and if they sing in their own language, well, even better! So here’s a band from Athens, Greece, whose name, song titles, and logo are inspired by the world of pirates, which makes us like them even more! With the help of automatic translators and overcoming our panic at having to translate from Greek, reminiscent of our high school days, we discover that they are celebrating their fifteenth birthday and that their lyrics deal with politics and current affairs. All this in a very pleasant mix of punk, ska, reggae, and gypsy. Super!

Punk Rock

Der Ganze Rest – hübsch. (Dackelton Records | 12” LP/ CD)

Let’s make our voices heard while we still can and oppose those who shout without any arguments other than fear, hatred, and incitement to hatred. Whichever character comes to mind with this description (and unfortunately there are plenty to choose from), this is the meaning of “stimme.,” one of the 14 tracks on the Stuttgart band’s splendid new album. Punk rock sung in German with hints of reggae, country, hardcore, and metal, but above all, highly politicized punk rock, with messages of solidarity and tolerance against creeping populism and a touch of irony. Featuring Dave Collide, Petrikor, and White Sparrows. Not to be missed!

Snooper – Worldwide (Third Man Records | 12″ LP, CD, Tape)

The band from Nashville, Tennessee, give us 11 original tracks plus a stunning and brilliant cover of Come Together. This new work is bizarre, sensational, acrobatic and absolutely lysergic. A crazy journey through melody, frenzy and uniqueness. It is impossible to categorise this album into a single genre. Could we call it punk rock? Egg punk? Post punk? That would be an understatement, given the enormous amount of different influences, from the magnetic bass to the hypnotic guitars, the danceable rhythm and the significant electronic influences that blend with the catchy and well-structured vocals. A sensational album, a strong contender for album of the year!

Old Chase – At The End Of All The Thrills

If you love skatepunk, you absolutely cannot miss the new work by this London quartet. Eleven short, fast-paced tracks, full of energy, yet melodic and catchy at the same time. The lyrics tackle both personal and political issues, always with a bold and ironic twist. There is a brief foray into hardcore in the powerful track “You Fucked the Ocean,” featuring the band Le Rox.

Coxey’s Army – Stand Together. Keep The Faith (DIY | 12” LP / CD)

A mantra repeated to find the strength to start over after a difficult period becomes the title of the debut album by this band from Columbus, Ohio, which aims to give voice to the working class. A message of unity and hope in which punk rock mixes with Irish and folk melodies, with the addition of traditional instruments such as mandolin and bouzouki. Add to that the streetpunk touch provided by working-class topics and gritty vocals, and the result is an irresistible mix that will give you the right boost to face the day. Listen to it on repeat!

Fallen Lillies – Cran (DIY | 12” LP / CD)

In colloquial French, “avoir le cran” means to have the courage to do something. And this album, the second by the Montbéliard quartet, is about the courage to speak out against body shaming, patriarchy, toxic relationships, and the prohibition of leaving with dignity. These important topics are addressed by Hélène, Laura, Lulu (recently replaced by Laëtitia), and Marine, in the classic lineup of vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, with gritty punk rock and metal undertones. Ten tracks that win you over from the first listen and are sure to have a big impact live – a must-have!

Hardcore Punk

Imploders – Targeted For Extermination (Neon Taste Records, Static Shock Records | 12″ LP)

The Canadian band from Toronto is back with its second album, consisting of 12 tracks. Clattering guitars, screaming vocals and fast, powerful bass and drums make this record a real gem. If you like 80s hardcore sounds à la Circle Jerks, Angry Samoans or Chain Whip – to name a current band – you’ll love this record!

Traumatizer – Nuclear War Machine (Discos Enfermos | 7″ / The Seats Of Piss Recs | Tape)

The Dutch band from Haarlem returns with a second EP. With this EP consisting of five hardcore punk songs influenced by thrash metal, they delight us with almost ten minutes of superb noise. Fast, powerful and angry, if you are a fan of bands like Sacrilege, you will love this great disc!

Citric Dummies – Split With Turnstile (Feel It Records | 12″ LP)

This Minneapolis band now has a subscription to Diyno Mixtape, as their previous releases had already caught our attention. In this new work, the 12 songs burst with energy. Fast hardcore punk with riffs and rhythms that nod to rock’n’roll and vocals that give each song its own personality. Press play and time will fly by, leaving you wanting to listen to it again and again… Great work, Citric Dummies!

Spøgelse – Spøgelse II (Welfare Sounds & Records | 12″ LP)

In 15 very short, very fast, very energetic tracks, the Swedish band reaps through everything they find in their path. The songs are all about 1 minute long and feature powerful vocals with catchy lines, a hardcore punk rhythm section that is nothing short of hammering, and solos that wink at the most rotten rock’n’roll. Super!

Soga – Corrosión (Iron Lung Records | 12″ LP)

Angy, Sara and Violeta make up this powerful, chaotic and furious trio formed in Mexico City in 2018. In these 12 hardcore punk songs, they express their anger about various important topics in their native country, such as patriarchy, femicide, gentrification, far-right bigotry and the violence and exploitation of environmental resources by multinational corporations. Alternating between fast and very fast rhythms, this album will play powerfully through your stereo. An extraordinary debut album!

Sludge

Entrøpia – Down In The Swamp Of Human Bleakness (12″ LP | Ostia Records)

The band from Bologna, which has captivated us many times with its magnetic live performances, is releasing a new LP. After listening to it, you are left with a feeling of deep inner desolation, that feeling that lurks in all people who, as the band tells through its lyrics, feel trapped in the muddy quicksand of the capitalist world. The hypnotic riffs stick to you like dark slime while the vocals pierce your ears. The rhythm section brings just the right amount of punk influence to balance the sludge sounds. A well-crafted album in all its aspects, framed by Daniel Hartman’s evocative and fitting artwork and an inner poster by Stiv of Visions Of War. Another great highlight is the cover of Bite It You Scum by GG Allin & The Murder Junkies with changed lyrics because, as the band says, the original was definitely cringe. Ready to be dragged down in the swamp of human bleakness?

Anarcho-Punk

Minoranza Di Uno / L’Incubo – Ed è per questo che io ti bacio sempre (Radio Punk, Fra Il Di’ E Il Fa’ Al’E’ Di Mieç Il Mâr Autoproduzioni, Igorone, Minoranza Autoproduzioni | CD)

Not only sunsets in the north-east, but also some healthy anarcho-punk with a kick! This is how I would introduce this four-song split between Minoranza di Uno, now a legendary band based between the provinces of Gorizia and Trieste, and L’Incubo, a Gorizia-based band that already has an album released last year. Minoranza di Uno reconfirms its established mix of anarcho-punk and hardcore together with its unmistakable political-introspective lyrics. On the other hand, L’Incubo draws us in with its decidedly dark and heart-wrenching mood. What a crazy duo!
