Interview with DEAD NECK!

Here I am with the punk hardcore band from Manchester, Dead Neck, and they bring grappa, presents and a lot of fun!

I: What is your impression of this festival?

DN: This is paradise! What do you want more? That’s paradise!

I: How do you fell about the people coming up and down the stage, no barriers at all…?

DN: You know why there are no barriers? I saw that on the website… there was Jello Biafra playing and he said ‘there’s any chance you could remove this barriers?’ and since then they removed the barriers. The crowd can be more involved, they can all be friends… well, we saw someone jumping and landing directly on the floor but…

I: Do you prefer small festivals, some small clubs or big ones?

DN: Well, when they invite you to play next to the river… that’s awesome. And yes, there’s too hot for English people like us. It’s an amazing scene. Starting from the driving here, we were like: wow!

I: Back to the band, what are your future plans?

DN: Playing another festival next week. Then some dates in Spain and Portugal, even in the Algarve. And Valencia… So we are pretty busy for the next months travelling around!

I: What is the craziest thing that happen to you on stage?

DN: We are pretty boring.. Not really actually, nothing impressive. Well, the best ones you can’t tell so…

I: Alright! Do you have some kind of preparation, ritual, before going on stage?

DN: I try to get as drunk as I can, Andy tries to stay as sober as he can. Jim… well… tries to focus.

And well, then starts some snapps tasting. Pure grappa from the hills, and I just wanted to say there was 3 pm under a hot sun. So cheers guys!

Back to the interview…

I: Are you staying the whole week?

DN: Yes! We are enjoying the festival!

I: What are the bands that are you looking forward to see?

DN: Comeback kid! We are Comeback Kid fans! Almeida…

   – Then Andy said that he’s never seen Bad Religion live so started a chorus of oh nooo!! –

… This is a standoff, Rebuke… for this scene, Rebuke on the main stage is a great thing, it’s a big step.

I: Talking about the scene, how do you fell about it nowadays?

DN: There’s a punk festival in Manchester, called, Manchester Punk festival, which is of course the most creative title for a festival in the world… well, it’s three years old and this year there were Propagandhi the headliners… and it was sold out! Well, sometimes for small bands, playing on a Tuesday night, can be really difficult. There are no many local bands coming out, but there’s a florid scene, a lot of clubs, a lot of promoters, a scene… we just miss the local bands!

I: What do you think it’s the best way to start a band now?

DN: Well, write a song and play it! – laughing – well, no, there’s a kind of attitude… just think about people, your songs, and have fun! It’s all about that!

I: What is for you the punk attitude?

DN: It means something broken, and you don’t have something to fix it, what are you going to use to fix it? You do what you can! And you don’t give a shit! – laughing – it also means don’t be a dick, and care about everyone!

And cheers to all of you!
