MDC + Nana in Venice – July 26th, 2018

In the middle of the week (on Wednesday 26th July) a bunch of punx from Friuli decided to go for a trip facing the usual troubles of those who go to the Venetian city: out of reach prices for parking, speed traps, nasty cops. Once managed these difficulties and repeated many times “how beautiful is Venice?” we penetrate in the narrow alleys, muddy waters and tricky bridges to finally arrive at the show of Nana and MDC (better known as Millions of Dead Cops, same acronym used for some bad wonderful things as Millions of Damn Christians). The benefit has been organized by boys and girls of ex-Ospizio Occupato squat, who really deserves lot of compliments and gratitude as they resist and fight in a city hardly affected by the gentrification. They provided a bar and DIY screen printing and materials stands in Santa Marta, a sort of basket camp where the raised funds goes to people in trouble with law. Concluding with the introduction, I want to mention the fundamental requirements for several riders: no cops, no spies, no nazi, no fascists, no homo-transphobic. Shortly: shitty people are not welcome.
Nana delighted us with a good dosage of acoustic awkwardness and melancholy with her indie-punk folk. For those who don’t know her, Nana comes from Pescara and writes what she calls “kind of ugly” songs about her life, bummer, stuff and people in general. “Kind of ugly” or not, we love her songs even if listened a hundred of times.
As regards MDC, it shouldn’t be necessary to introduce them as they are a legend of US punk scene but we will do it anyway: it’s a hardcore punk band from Texas (Austin for meticulous fans), a naturally politicised band (they have always claimed their closeness to far left, against capitalism, for LGBTQ community and for animal rights, against racism, against any kind of discrimination or fascism). Led by the myth Dave Dictor, MDC has messed with the power since 1979 with a unique style. During this occasion they decided to propose an alternative to their usual powerful hardcore introducing an acoustic version (without failing to be an extraordinary and vigorous band), and playing slogan as “No Trump, No KKK, No Fascist USA” (used also by Green Day).
Well done, beautiful people, we can’t wait to come back in Venice as we stated that it is super nice!
