Merry Widow – Via Di Qua – Review

Today we talk about “Via Di Qua” (“Away From Here”), the new album by Merry Widow, an Italian punk rock band that has been active since 2003. To begin with, I want you to know that I’m so happy to hold the “physical” copy of this album, and because of this I would like to thank the band for kindly offering one to us to be placed in our distro.
Firstly, the album starts with force with “Intro (Icaro)” and “Rabbia In Testa”, powerful songs which project us immediately into the slant of this album: a sequence of melodic punk rock and –hardcore, the whole strictly in the Californian style. The album, launched with the song “Via Di Qua”, is extremely uniform and Luca’s voice has a great impact on the listener, especially in some of the tracks.
Bass, drums and guitar never show off, according to this genre, but they turn out to be extraordinarily incisive and well-recorded. We therefore come across 8 fast and catchy tracks you can’t slip away from; except “Favole” that to me is still not completely convincing, I’m really pleased with this album.
Unfortunately, the only weak point regards the layout/design, in particular, the booklet: this point should be surely cared-for with more cure and attention in the future.
In conclusion, “Via Di Qua”, which was self-produced with Turbo Spaghetti Records (turbospaghetti@libero.it), is absolutely a considerable and well-made record. Due to this, I strongly recommend the listening to all the punk rockers that are reading this!
