Punti Scena Records’ special: Four records, same label

In this Punti Scena Records’ special we’re discussing four records that came out under the same label

Since we, as Radio Punk, decided to make content without timing, today we’re spending time on this article which is more like a focus on a label and some releases they kindly handed us to talk about, spreading the DIY word while supporting each other. Plus, I might add, to evaluate and comment on an album that flew under the radar as time passed. Anyway, without further ado, we give to you the Punti Scena Records Special: Four records, same label!

The Kinn-Ocks – S/T:

An absolute gem that came out on Halloween in 2017. Back when the only masks we wore were to look like crazy doctors… Good times. Sigh. Whatever, let’s continue. The band is made up of former members of the amazing “Deep Throat” and we’re also catching up with Paolo Merenda, guitar, and vocals. Kinn-Ocks are from Alessandria and they kinda remind me of the newly formed, also from Alessandria (and also with Paolo Merenda who at this point could very well be made town mayor) Bag of Snacks, of which I own the vinyl and it’s brilliant.

In this Self Titled record live 10 songs, all old-school Hardcore with a hint of Speed rock n roll which gets your head bobbing like hell, all short and straight to the point. What’s the point of a 2 and a half minute song when you can tell everything in a minute?! Not to mention the amazing and concise lyrics, a mix of irony, comedy, and boldness in between comics, vegan food, snacks (“Why Raider turned into Twix?”), and other light topics. On this great record also collaborated, in addition to Punti Scena, three more entities: Pig Records (USA), Italian Extreme Underground, and È Un Brutto Posto Dove Vivere.

Alfatec / Anno Senza Estate – Split

By removing the 7” envelope we’re teleported into this magic world where, on the A-side, we find my beloved Alfatec, that I saw live near Udine years ago and immediately fell in love with. Some sort of hybrid between Black Sabbath for the sound and hardcore punk for rhythms and attitude. Remarkable solos, scratchy vocals, slower and faster parts glued together by hardcore riffs. Why am I even speaking, pure spectacle!

On the B side of things, I pleasantly find a band I’ve been hearing about loads of times, that being Anno Senza Estate. The pace slows down but the quality remains sky-high, A.S.E, with their garage sounding punk rock, manages to sound retro while sounding fresh at the same time. The vocals side of these four songs is definitely brilliant, making everything feel smooth and catchy. In the meantime, I find out they’re from Alessandria as well, and I’ll let you guess one of the members! Let me conclude by saying this is not a co-production but instead it was completely released by Punti Scena in September 2016 with 300 copies. Kudos!

Anno Senza Estate – MMXVI

Still them, still on a 7”. This time, besides the envelope we can find a cover with the lyrics in English by Gippy, despite the band sings in Italian, which I gotta say fits very well both for the minimalistic choice that’s cohesive with the music and for the fact that the vocals are very clear anyways. “MMXVI” came out in June of 2016 under Punti Scena Records in Italy and for 1332 Records in the USA.

All the 11 tracks, short and straight to the point, sound rawer, or to put it better more “garage”, as opposed to the split and at times reminded me of Dead Kennedys or The Adolescents. The vocals are definitely the selling point of the band, both in vocal melodies and for the singing itself putting the tracks straight into your head. Plus, the introspective nature of the melancholic lyrics fits in so damn well. Favorite track: “Samsara”, have a listen to believe. Also with it being the last, I suggest you enjoy the whole record from the beginning as it’s a really nice crescendo!

Deche-Charge / Meuh!!! / Cum Sock / Deflowered Cunt – 4 way gang bang dans marde!!!

It took me a good half hour to write the title. Hear me out. Basically, this is a split record between four bands that make a virtue out of the noise. It came out in 2017 on 7” 45-rpm with the large hole which really looks vintage! Here, ladies and gentlemen, Punti Scena changes genre and shows off its most extreme and violent side, joining forces with a bunch of labels for a sumptuous international DIY conspiracy: Alternative Record Label and Minorobscur from Germany, Spunk Production (I found no info, unfortunately), KeepHope from Québec, Nuclear Alcoholocaust from France, Lysergic Meltdown and Third Eye Grind Records from the USA, Sick Phoque and Bringer of Gore from Belgium and The Scalding House straight from England.

The album starts with a three minute song, the only one, from Deche-Charge, noise-core from Québec, a mishmash of indescribable violence made into sound, just like the following 3 songs from Meuh!!!, absolute infernal noise. We then transition into something a little different with Canada’s very own “Cum Sock” (translator note: it does sound pretty bad actually, I’m sorry for the image) where grind and noise fuse together forging three pretty extreme tracks. The record is concluded by a staggering 12 songs by Deflowered Cunt that already makes something clear: chaos absolutely reigns here and all logic is gone to shit, maybe is from here they got their definition of Shitnoise. What else to say, a good record in the name of screams, samples, and fucked up distortions. Noise lovers of the world unite and listen to this!

We end this special by thanking this DIY label for the records they provided us with and by recommending an album released by Punti Scena Records. Drumroll…

CARLOS DUNGA – SABATO NERO

Released in 2014, this album is in our hearts both because of the wonderful people in the lineup and because it is an absolute blast. Try it for yourselves!
