Review: Attic – Interiors

New album by Attic from Mantua

My first review of May and my second incursion into the Post Hc/Screamo lands, of course, with all the sounds nuances that vary from band to band. This time we’re going to talk about “Interiors”, the new album by Attic from Mantova, a band which we interviewed a few weeks ago. This second full-length album, made of eight tracks, of which six are sung and two are instrumental, (one is played with the piano, the only softer moment of a very angry album). The guitars with gloomy and darkish tones alternate fast sounds to slower stoner-like songs, while the drum often suggests “crooked” timings far from the 4/4 rhythm which we, old school lovers, are accustomed to. On this dark instrumental path, the scream and harassed singing fit the bill: the lyrics are shouting words of internal pain, mental instability and the quest for a happiness that is still so far away. A band like this isn’t part of my usual listening, because I usually love more positive lyrics, but I appreciated their artistic commitment and who knows if I will manage to meet them in some Fest in the future.
