Review: CGB – Schegge

New album by CGB, historical band from Imperia

CGB don’t need any introduction. They’re all over the place, in a way or another, since 1987 bringing anger, attitude and stubbornness, pursuing that spirit that most of us hope won’t get lost in between the daily grind, the standardization of everyday life, the hatred for all the things that didn’t turn out our way.

The title “Schegge” represents what we will find in this CD, masterfully produced by M.F. TONY at the Sound Studio in Imperia: a handful of furious and threatening tracks fired at an insanely fast pace just like splinters of a bomb that could have exploded for a lot less but anger or love.

After a acoustic intro, the CD introduces itself with “Iridi Stanche” and from then on it goes smooth, fast and monolithic with 5 more punk hc tracks (plus a ghost track, sorry for the spoiler!) well played and firm sounding, built on a very accurate drumming, made of explosive parts and mid tempos, a sharp-as-a-knife guitar and a raspy and violent voice that can barely find the time to catch its breath.

The deep and introspective lyrics delivered by Gippy find a perfect narrative/existential continuance with Davide‘s, the former singer’s, lyrics.

CGB set the whole place on fire, and that fire is still burning.

p.s. It is a fantastic surprise to be listening to the CD and finding the Antifa logo on the bottom of the CD case. Because to this day, it’s still necessary to take a position, since the people who actively contribute to make the world a worst place to live in, never catch a break. So why should we?

CGB from Imperia and elsewhere, wherever ears and hearts are ready to listen.
