Review: Closed Speech – Rookies
Punk rockers from Rome, Closed Speech, presented their new album
Tom asked me if I want to write a review: of course, I want! Especially if it is a review of a punk rock band, funny and energetic, as I like. Therefore, let’s hear this album Rookies, first LP from the band from Rome, Closed Speech.
Released at the end of 2018, it contains 14 songs – plus an intro – which recall the punk rock from the 90ies, NoFx style. Actually, in the moment that I pressed play and the first song, Bananastate, started, I was threw back in time. Well, the four guys from Rome talk about the current situation, and they are doing it with the right attitude and energy.
Then WTRFU started and I started to laugh and I just wanted to jump around as if I were a kid again! Scratchy voice, perfect guitar timings, the sound is just a bit dirty, and it is all true again, as if we were in the home garage
Jumping to the last three songs: Offenpunk – which comprehends also a kazoo and some funny choruses – becomes my favourite song! Listen to it, please, especially in rainy and cloudy days. Then it is time for Dr. Shit and the last song, Dinero (in Spanish): two songs completely different, but anyway powerful, especially the first one, while the last one is funnier, for a great album closure!
Songs that doesn’t last more than 2 minutes, a great cover artwork by Silvia Sicks and the right sound: that’s what I call a punk rock album!
