Review: Heute Nebel – Servi

“All the servants of the king have it with me!”

Twisted and twisted guitar strings such as iron spaghetti, a bit ‘of chores from classic punk rock bands mixed with collective screams, a composition that borders aggressive yet catchy tones and at the same time gives space to the alternative rock more scathing and nasty. This is the Heute Nebel (someone gives me explanations: it means “fog of today” in German?), A trio of guys dedicated to mixing punk, fog and noise rock from Ferrara. They keep faith with their beliefs: direct and without frills, most of the EP (maybe some guitar here and there, but we can fly over, not another clone band of the Discharge).

Splashing through the slime of Facebook, I caught their page and I discovered a couple of interesting things: they call themselves “punksongwriters”(in poor visibility) [from the swamp]” and they played on the same stages (squats and other militant spaces: very appreciated point) of highly regarded creatures in the Italian landscape such as the Intothebaobabs, Affluente, the CGB and the Antidigos.

Let’s move a bit around the tracks. In “(In)Azione” we appreciate the fact that our heroes try to boost the audience (“Maybe the solution is in action”) and to make him rise from the chair where we end up sinking that turns into a comfortable grave for still alive individuals. Personally, it is the piece I preferred.

“Necrosi”, instead, is quite pushed on the stoner punk,”Tutti i servi” is dotted with beautiful instrumental evidences and nicely fierce and acab lyrics (“mom, take me away from the gendarmerie empire / mom, take me away from the police empire “). “Poltiglia” is the closest to the canonical  ‘teenage punk. “Necessità” has a very strong anti-consumer footprint, slows down and falls in aggressiveness compared to the rest of the record, a little noise here and there and a little work on the tools, to draw the attention of the most interested in technique.

Summa and judgment of the undersigned: to be the first EP of these alternative punk songwriters is a good job, catchy and enjoyable (of course, does not reach exceptional levels, like traces from the immediate boom, but it is a nice introduction to the future that belongs to them), which knows how to assert itself through the five tracks and managed to arouse a certain curiosity about the future of the trio. May the fog protect them!
