Review: I Maiali – Cvlto
New album by I Maiali from Rome
A hybrid of screamo, post-hardcore and noise sang in Italian characterizes “CVLTO”, the new album from I Maiali, Roman band expressing a precise idea of music, with dark sounds and nihilistic and satanic lyrics, which appears to be the main theme of the entire album.
Francesco Foschini‘s raging voice, often modulated in a Marilyn Manson-style, seems to impress the listener, as if he needs to gut out the meaning of those words that are so dark that seems they land in Hell, and we are ferried on a river of dirty and cursed instruments.
“CVLTO” has been produced by Phil Liar at the Monolith Recording Studio, mastered at the Mistery House Sound Studio (USA) and branded by Overdub Recordings. The album has been initially anticipated by the release of two singles: “Ave”, the baptismal track of this album, which could be defined as a sermon, for restless souls; and “Carne”, a song which wants to reunite with the man’s most earthly and visceral part.
The artwork, by Coito Negato, is exactly as it should be, coherent with the noise that this album wants to convey.
