Review: Malvina – Hybrid War
Hybrid War is the new album by Brazilian band Malvina
Malvina are a Brazilian band from Rio de Janeiro and, of course, I did not know about them, before they greatly and positively surprised me with this third album, Hybrid War. A mix and match of melodic hardcore, metal and prog rock, a true hybrid. What really strikes me about this album actually, a part from the beautiful cover artwork, are the lyrics. They talk about Brazil of course, and about the Amazon deforestation, the exploiting of the tribes, the economic and social crisis, and about Bolsonaro. However, they are talking about the whole world actually; they are analyzing and discussing capitalism, climate changing and all issues that are destroying our world.
It is a global war, well, not a true war, but a hybrid, which is impossible to identify but hits you in the back. And the sounds and lyrics of the album – conceived during four intense years – convey exactly all this. A great album, very well planned, with clean sounds which suddenly become gloomy. Among my favourite songs, you will find Scenario, XIII and Biped Goodbye.
Well done, Malvina, a great album that deserves to be heard more than once! And, who knows, eventually they will come here for a Euro tour!
