Review: Sangue – Sangue
Some of you may already know about my liking and admiration towards Sardinia, an enchanting land rich in beautiful landscapes, kind-hearted souls, plentiful dishes, sheep, flamingos, and good bands. And today I’m gonna talk exactly about one of these. The band is called Sangue, it comes from Olbia and has just released its first and self-titled record: 8 pure hardcore tracks, which were called with titles of famous films (nice idea, later I’ll tell you why), that last from 30 seconds to about 2 minutes (as it should be), a very distinguishing feature. The cover is simple, but denotes completely the atmosphere of the album.
The record starts with “Grano Rosso Sangue” (which is also the first single from it): very strong and powerful, I think the band wanted to introduce itself with this song before proceeding with “Shining”, that in my opinion has ‘Skruigners influences’ (like quite the entire album), and I really, really like it.
“Pulp Fiction” comes after, and this is absolutely one of my favorites: the rhythmic changes and the tempo gets slower, turning into an easier but lively punk-rock, an exactly right union that makes you feel like listening to it endlessly. “I swear I’m sincere”, just to make a half-quote.
With “Forrest Gump” the style goes back to a more 90s hardcore and accompanies a well-written lyric, in which I’m sure many of us would identify, myself included. It was also made a very cool video for this song, if you haven’t seen it yet, then take a look at it!
“X-Men” is the most melodic hardcore track off this album. It’s very varied and wrapped in a sorrowful tone, and then results in a really catchy chorus that stays in your head quickly. Beautiful!
The following “Basic Instinct” beats down like crazy: sure enough it is characterized by a certainly strong and decisive style, that gives you the right strength.
“Blade Runner”, with its wonderful lyrics and really unique and afflicted melody, ranks among my favorites without a doubt; excellent and spot-on stylistic choice. Good job!
The album ends with “Un Giorno Di Ordinaria Follia”, whose very first expression made me fall in love with this song; the following words are ‘soaked’ with malice and brutality, but all in all they’re impactful and fit with the music perfectly. I suggest to listen to it when you’re pissed off, ‘cause it makes you blow off steam.
Having said that, I’m not an expert in cinema at all, but from what little I know, I was able to find in each song some links to their relevant film, improved with the thoughts of the band. I must say this is a brilliant and original idea, that gives an extra point to the album. That’s what being an artist is.
Are you curious to know what these references are? Then listen to this amazing album, I totally recommend it!
