Review: Sharp Cut – Trouble From The Streets
Sharp Cut are an Oi!/Street punk band from Leipzig. Earlier this year they put out a new album which title is “Trouble from the street”. It is a seven tracks album, produced by Fire and Flames Music and recorded at the Neue Welt Records studio. The CD comes in a cardboard sleeve and has a no-frills artwork, lyrics are included along with a brief account of the historic Cable Street Battle – which is also pictured on the cover -.
The lyrics are in English and are quite straightforward, covering topics regarding the proletariat, militant antifascism and skinhead culture (see Rash ’n’ Roll). Vocals are definitely catchy and will make you want to sing along from the very start.
The tracklist is solid and highlights both their old school Oi! and “rock ’n’ roll” influences, especially when it comes to guitar riffs making. Basically it is an album that runs pleasantly smooth from the beginning to the end.
Hard to pick a favorite among the songs, but since the opener “Trouble form the streets” gets you immediately into the whole album mood, it turns out to be probably the most memorable.
In conclusion, we really enjoyed the album. It is a really interesting album both sound and content wise. Indeed, right after a first listen, it will make you want to scream at the top of your lungs – just like reported in the Cable Street Battle account -: “They shall not pass!”.
