Review: Sproloquio – Canzoni di basso profilo, per chi non ha voglia di ascoltare.

New solo album by Annoying Records

Sproloquio” is a journey connected by socio-cultural issues communicated with anger and energy in a minute and a half per track. “Nothing is created, nothing is destroyed, everything is wasted” is, in fact, a statement representative of the capitalist society we live in, in which people, noises and words are dropped and remain and devalued.

This is a hard-hitting release from “Annoying Records” which combines long and epic song titles with very short and direct songs. Musically it should appeal to fans of mid 80s US punk groups, especially early Black Flag (think “Wasted” from the “Nervous Breakdown” EP era) and Minor Threat. Another reference point could be the Japanese band Melt Banana, who also mix brief and abrasive songs unusual words and titles. Lovers of Steve Albini’s Big Black and their gritty cover version of “The Model” will also get a kick out of the Kraftwerk cover of “Radioactivity” which is included here.

Interestingly, this is actually both a solo project and a concept album, and the production is as sharp and punchy as the songs themselves. Many tracks create an addictive feast of concise punk miniatures. This is countered by the sentence length song titles which also exhibit a dark sense of humour. It would certainly be a good record to blast out whilst travelling or to de-stress too.

An enjoyable and recommended release for anyone looking for a fresh and intriguing take on the classic hardcore punk sound.
