Sherwood Goes Hardcore 3 – Padua
During the Sherwood Goes Hardcore #3 evening, a mini hardcore punk festival at the Sherwood Festival in Padova, Suicidal Tendencies played their second Italian gig, while on the second stage there were The Frog, Game Over, Danny Trejo and Minkions.
Unfortunately, due to work, I arrived late and the first two bands had already performed, while Danny Trejo were towards the end of their show. Nonetheless, I was able to appreciate their fast-paced, hardcore music. After Danny Trejo, the Minkions (from Padova) played with their very own hardcore thrash punk sound. They ended their gig with an Exploited cover, “Sex and Violence”, which was sung by the whole crowd.
Before moving on to the main stage we enjoyed a beer from one of the many stands and we checked Suicidal Tendencies’ merchandising (t-shirts, caps, skate boards…).
At 10pm, Suicidal Tendencies, a historical band from Venice (Los Angeles) lead by their latest front-man Mike Muir, start their show with a powerful “You Can’t Bring Me Now”, with Mike Muir jumping all over the stage. The band’s energy, musically speaking, remains impeccable and the addition of Dave Lombardo (Slayer) in this context makes him one of the best.
In one and a half hours of concert, everything was out there, from some audio problems to people from the crowd getting on stage during “Possessed To Skate” and “Saw Your Mommy”. Nonetheless, the show was well-received by the audience and this could be seen by the circular mosh pit.
Suicidal Tendencies played many older tunes, thus satisfying the crowd. I personally think that in a smaller and closer-to-the-people context it would have been better.
Let’s just hope that, despite what Mike Muir says, these are not the last shows by the band from Venice.
See you guys at the next concert!
