Streetpunk Oi!

Flick Knives – Burn Down Start Again (Ring of Fire Records, Mad Drunken Monkey Records | 12” LP)

Destroy everything that is wrong and always have the courage to start over, preserving the youthfulness of spirit and remaining true to who we are: this is the encouraging message of the new EP by the band from Cologne, Germany. The five tracks are featured on one side of the vinyl record, while the other side features the previous EP, “Knife-by,” from 2024. Essential but melodic street punk embellished with a majestic Hammond organ, with equally essential, direct, and effective lyrics in English. A real treat for the ears and the heart!

Razzapparte – L’Etrusco Uccide Ancora (Crombie Media | CD)

This new mini-album by the band from Viterbo consists of six songs, including two remixes – oi! street punk of great quality and originality. They stick in your head from the first listen and, thanks also to the excellent cover by Mattia Dossi, depicting the Etruscan demon Tuchulca, we can say that this 30th anniversary release is truly a magnificent treasure. Ah, for the record, L’Etrusco Uccide Ancora is a cult film from 1972… but we won’t spoil it for you! Take a few minutes to listen to this excellent album!

Punk Rock

Silent Trouble – Good Times Don’t Last

We live in a world that rewards competitiveness at the expense of cooperation and considers empathy a weakness and those who just want to live in peace without fighting for money and career to be “underachievers,” in a time increasingly similar to 1933 with the spread of fascism and racism. The band from Ludwigsburg/Stuttgart, Germany, started as an acoustic solo project and then became a quartet. They are very attentive to political issues and those related to mental health and promote respect and kindness as a counterbalance to hatred and violence. This first full-length album, which includes the singles released in previous months plus four unreleased tracks, offers us very catchy punk rock with melodies reminiscent of rock ‘n’ roll and blues songwriting. A great debut album, don’t miss it!

Grippers – Disobedient Mental Attitude (Potencial Hardcore | CD / 12” LP)

This is the third album by the Madrid band, which has been active for over a decade, presenting eight new tracks sung in English, featuring energetic and gritty punk rock with multiple influences, from rock ‘n’ roll to metal. A very pleasant surprise is the participation of Aimee from The Interrupters in “Never Say Goodbye,” a song that invites us to never forget our roots and our essence, freeing ourselves from external impositions. An engaging album to listen to at full volume, which will surely work great live!

Ska Punk

tryingtogetby – pay attention

If you love unlikely musical combinations, you’ll definitely be intrigued by this bizarre mix of ska, punk, and hip hop, a solo project by American singer-songwriter and session musician Ty Miller, whose 2023 album No Time To Waste we already enjoyed. But in the five tracks that make up this EP, the lyrics, which are highly political, are also very important. The title track, for example (here is the video with the lyrics), is a lucid examination of what is happening and an invitation to America, and to the world, to resist: let’s not be misled by the media, but let’s open our eyes before it’s too late. “Wake up, pay attention!”

Hans Gruber and the Die Hards – Or Hans Gruber and the Die Hards (DIY | 12” LP)

Without warning, out of the blue, this monumental work arrives from Texas and leaves us literally speechless. Over thirty people, including the bands Bondbreakr, The Odd Advantage, and Doom Scroll, played on the 12 tracks, and the list of instruments used is impressive, including guira, theremin, sousaphone, viola and cello, accordion, harp, and many others. The musical genres are also varied, ranging effortlessly from ska-punk to metal, folk to hardcore, progressive to cumbia, even within the same track, yet one has the impression of listening to a coherent and compact album. A redundant album, at once chaotic and orderly, apocalyptic and salvific. It is a mirror of America as a melting pot of languages, ethnicities, and cultures, a free, bold, and slightly over-the-top America, an America that rebels against the current state of affairs. Because the lyrics, lucidly sarcastic, speak of injustices, environmental disasters, and political parasites as evils to be eradicated for the common good:

“One day, the houses we build won’t be for the rich They’ll be for our families, they’ll be for our friends There’ll be no more landlords, there’ll be no more rent ¡Rebeldía hoy en día! Tenemos que resistir”

This masterpiece is a sensory experience and should be listened to over and over again to appreciate every nuance: without a doubt, it rightfully ranks among the best albums of the year!

Crust punk

Hope? – Hell On Planet Earth (Agipunk, Desolate Records | LP)

The band, with members based in Portland and Minneapolis, releases this debut album characterised by cold atmospheres, fast rhythms and furious riffs. These nine tracks showcase the band’s crust sound with hardcore punk influences, with the different voices intertwining beautifully to create a dynamic, powerful and original mix. In terms of themes, as the name suggests, this album explores pain, despair and anger in search of a sense of community in this rotten and adrift world. One of the best crust releases of recent years, don’t miss it!

Dissekerad – Väggarna Rasar (Phobia Records, Desolate Records | LP)

When you have members of Totalitar, Avskum and Krigshot in your line-up – just to name a few – it’s pretty hard to release a bad album. And indeed, on this new album, Dissekerad do not disappoint, delighting us with 12 songs of hardcore/crust faithful to the Swedish school. In these dark times, we need reassuring, simple but well-made noise, and this Stockholm band is a guarantee!

Kläpträp – The Infernal Machination (Phobia Records | LP)

The band, whose members are scattered between Ruhr and Halifax, releases these 12 tracks that straddle crust punk, hardcore and anarcho punk. The rough ’80s sound and the alternation of male and female vocals – with some songs sung in German and others in English – immediately capture the listener’s attention thanks to the incredible dynamism that is created from the very first listen. Looking for information here and there, I discovered that the band includes members of bands such as Visions Of War, Doom and Excrement of War, just to name a few. In short, a seal of approval! But beyond the illustrious names, the album rocks and flows away like a dream!

Hardcore Punk

Vipers – S/T (Swimming Faith Records, Broken Skull, Undershows, Feral Kid Records | 7″)

This crazy bombshell comes from the States, born from the mind of Nick Candela, formerly of bands such as Sem Hastro and Coke Bust. Seven fast-paced, frenetic tracks sung with a powerful, and at times, devilish voice. In addition to the fast riffs and rock ‘n’ roll influences, thanks to these agitated solos, there is a high dose of 80s hardcore punk. If you like bands such as Circle Jerks, SOA, Raw Power and D.O.A., you’ve come to the right place!

Eskupa – Demo ’26

The cover, which is nothing short of captivating, a mix between something very tender and the darkest darkness, struck me immediately. Then I clicked play and found that raw and chaotic hardcore punk that, when done well as in this case, really gets me going! Dani’s voice, which seems to come from beyond the grave, and the omnipresent feedback are the icing on the cake. Four very interesting tracks from this band from Costa Rica!

Perro Mundo – Xicago (Extinction Burst | 7″)

From the very first listen, they reminded me of Canal Irreal, another really interesting band from Chicago, which we told you about some time ago and which we recommend you check out. These tracks, sung in Spanish and straddling hardcore punk and punk rock, are full of melody, anger, politics and personality. Four songs, but packed with attitude. Listen and see for yourself!

Post Punk

Orsini – Ezin Atera (DDT banaketak, Tough Ain’t Enough, Antídoto, Andalucía Über Alles, Crapoulet records | LP)

The Orsini come from Bilbao and Ezin Atera is not your typical post-punk album with dark sounds. On the contrary, it is an album that infuses a lot of energy and good vibes! Very pleasant to listen to, with two clear and distorted guitars, a nice bass presence and rhythmic and sparkling drums. The lyrics explore various themes such as emerging stronger from dark times, gentrification and the DIY spirit, which for the band represents ‘a way of staying true to who we are, and building things together’. It has an 80s flavour but with a touch of modernity, just the way we like it. Super!

Anarco Punk

Minoranza Di Uno – Lettere dal Fronte

Seventeen minutes of words, seven poems read by the various voices of the band set to a gently hypnotic musical backdrop. La Minoranza di Uno amazes us with this spoken word album, so different from their past works but incredibly faithful to the band’s style. “Lettere dal fronte” is difficult to describe, it slips away without leaving you with the heaviness that usually characterises poetry, but leaving a small inner groove that makes you look at things through a different lens. An album that manages to be sweet and bitter, introspective and political, intense but also delicate, and which we feel is important in the history of this wonderful band from the north-east. Now, press play and feel part of the album by identifying with those who receive letters from the front; any other words are superfluous… Thank you, Minoranza!
